Cable Checker
A desktop widget that shows what every USB-C port on your Mac is doing.
Version 1.0 · macOS 14 or later · free · signed and checked by Apple
What it shows
Each port, at a glance.
- What is plugged in. A phone, a drive, a dock, by name.
- How fast it is. 480 Mbps, 10 Gbps, 40 Gb/s.
- How it is connected. USB 2, USB 3, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort.
- Charging. Which port charges your Mac, and at how many watts.
- The cable. Smart (e-marked), active or optical.
Install
Two minutes.
- Download and open the zip.
- Drag Cable Checker into Applications.
- Open it once. Click Open when your Mac asks. It runs quietly in the background.
- Add the widget. Right-click the desktop, choose Edit Widgets, find Cable Checker.
Good to know
What a Mac will not tell an app.
- A cable's top rating (like 240 W or 40 Gb/s) stays inside the cable. Cable Checker shows what the cable is doing now.
- Nothing leaves your Mac. No account, no network, no tracking.
